Science:
This week we will be continuing our study of the rock cycle by working on 2.5 “Metamorphic Rocks”which will include a lab making Metamorphic Smores. After we have finished 2.5 we will be working on a travel brochure that will help students put together the similarities and differences between the rock types. As usual a quiz will be coming up the 19th over 2.3, 2.4, and 2.5. We have almost finished the unit, and so look for a study guide to come home late in the week. As of now our test over Rocks, Minerals, and the Rock Cycle is tentatively scheduled for Friday April 26th.
Homeroom:
Last week students were given their Silver Dollar City money forms which are due back by Friday, April 19th. Thanks for all your support with this field trip!
What is Happening: Tuesday: We started off the day by finishing our comic strips/short stories. We checked them with our tablemates and then moved on to checking our notes for 2.3 (page 10) and 2.5 (page 12) against my gold answer key. Next, we completed our Metamorphic Smores and worked on the lab report in class. Any part of the lab report not finished (including the essay question) needs to be completed by tomorrow at the beginning of class.
Essay Question: Describe the rock example we made in class during the metamorphic lab. Why was this activity a good example of that type of rock? What did each of the ingredients in the example represent?
Wednesday: We had the students check each other's metamorphic lab report essays and then we wrote a final draft of the essay which we shared in teams. Next we previewed a 3 types of rocks foldable we are going to be completing over the next 2 days and began working on it. The foldable will be due on Friday near the middle of class right before the quiz. If any student needs a copy of the instructions to come home please have them let me know and I can make them a copy.
