Friday May 3rd

The Plan:

Science:
This week we will be starting a short exploration of fossils. We will begin by exploring what a fossil is and what the different types of fossils are. We will be taking a look at how scientists use fossils to date time periods as well as piece together our past. Towards the end of the week we will be looking at completing our own excavation with help from the expert archeologists at the La Brea Tar Pits in California.

Homeroom:
MAP is this week so please make sure everyone gets plenty of rest!

What is Happening:

Monday: We received our tests back today (with a team average of an 81%) and students graphed them. Please sign and return your student's test by Wednesday May 1st. After we talked about our tests I gave back the students' notes, vocabulary, and crayon rock cycle packets and allowed students to correct (or finish) the work and resubmit it. We then went outside and celebrated our test succcess until the end of class.

Tuesday: We came in and bagan to work on our next mini-unit fossils. We discussed the learning objectives and the reasoning for the mini-unit and then prepared to take PQR2ST+ notes over 4.1 "fossils" in our Earth's Surface textbook. Students got a brief start on the notes and will finish them in class tommorow. Please don't forget to have your student bring back their signed Rocks and Minerals test tomorrow May 1st!

Wednesday: We started the day by taking 25 minutes in class to finish our PQR2ST+ notes and then check them with another person in the room to make sure we had the correct information. 1st and 3rd hours then had time for a mix-and-match activity involving the types of fossils which 2nd and 5th will be completing tomorrow. The only work for tonight would be if students do not have their PQR2ST+ notes over 4.1 "Fossils" finished to finish them.

Thursday: We started the day by taking 5 minutes in class to review our PQR2ST+ notes and then check how well we knew the information against our book. We then set up and discussed the trace fossils lab that we will be doing tomorrow by completing an introductory activity involving dinosaur tracks on our lab sheets. The only work for tonight would be if students need to finish their introductory activity.

Friday: We completed our trace fossils lab and lab report today. Students took the entire hour and should not have anything due Monday unless they failed to finish their lab report sheet.
