Science:
This week we will be completing a study on paleontologists and the work they are doing at the La Brea Tar Pits. We will be creating a poster and participating in a mock “dig”to discover ancient animals. We will be looking at a quiz over 4.1 on Wednesday May 8th
Homeroom:Letters will be coming home to chaperones tomorrow May 8th with information about a chaperone meeting being held the morning of SDC May 15th.
Monday: We began the day by reviewing the information over fossils that we covered last week. We then dug into the world of paleontology by watching a short video clip on excavating fossils and we began "The Great Fossil Find". Students were allowed to live the life of a paleontologist for a week and finish the front page of their lab experience sheet. We will be working on the back side and outlining how we will create a poster presentation for the experience tomorrow.
Tuesday: We finished up our questions on the back of "The Great Fossil Find" lab experience sheet and then met with several other paleontologists to discuss our answers to the questions. After the experience was over we began to work on a poster presentation that will show off the knowledge gained over the course of the mini-unit. Rubrics were given to the students' teams and then they worked for the remaining 30 minutes on the poster. Students will have 40 minutes to continue their work tomorrow before taking a quiz over 4.1 "Fossils".
Wednesday: Today we finished up our poster on "The Great Fossil Find" for the first 40 minutes and then completed the quiz on 4.1 over "Fossils". Students did a great job on their posters they were so detailed. I am so proud of them!
Thursday: Today we graphed our quizzes and then put them in our accordian files so we can bring them home. We then watched a Bill Nye video over "Fossils" and took notes over the video. We ended the class with a quiz over the Bill Nye video.
