Thursday August 15th

The Plan:

Science: Welcome to 6th Grade Science! This week we will be looking at how a community is run and built through teamwork, cooperation, and boundaries. Students will be going over the basic SPS and Wilson's Creek Handbooks, participating in cooperative team games, as well as learning about what our classroom expectations and procedures are all about. We will end the week with a handbook quiz over the SPS, Wilson's Creek, and classroom expectations.

Homeroom: Please make sure all of the forms (bus rider, cafeteria forms, no media forms, etc.) are signed and returned by Friday August 16th, 2013. Study for the Handbook Quiz tomorrow.

What is Happening:

Monday: Summer

Tuesday: Summer

Wednesday: Students made name tags in homeroom which allowed them to participate in name games and other fun activities. We also filled out a student information sheet, went over how to read our schedule, and emergency drill procedures for science. During second hour we set up our accordion files and sent home the SPS and Wilson's Creek forms to be signed and returned by Friday. During sixth hour we discussed the Wilson's Creek handbook with a group learning activity called "Jigsaw" and then finished the day in seventh hour going over the SPS handbook. Tomorrow we will be moving into team-building activities with more details to come!

Thursday: Students participated in team-building activities that taught them the values of skills like cooperation, teamwork, problem-solving, and perseverance. We then returned to our homerooms after specials and created "Effective Student" posters using the skills we learned about from the morning games. The students today did such a fantastic job I was so proud of them! Tomorrow we will be getting into the classroom rules after we take our Handbook Quiz as well as talking about our Science notebooks.
