Science:
Students will be continuing their study of rocks and minerals by wrapping up 2.4 “Sedimentary Rocks” on Monday and then we will move on to 2.3 “Igneous Rocks” where we will be participating in a lab making‘igneous peppermint brittle’. Please be looking for more information on this lab soon. We will be wrapping up the week with our usual weekly quiz on Thursday April 11th.
Monday: We started off the day by getting back our quizzes we took last Friday and graphing them in our composition notebooks. We then checked our notes packet pages 6-7 against my "answer key" and completed a lab over how to create conglomerate and sandstone (sedimentary rocks). Any work in their notes packet on page 8 for the lab that they did not finish in class I let them know needs to be done before class tomorrow. I also passed out "Edible Lab Permission Slips" from the district office that must be turned in by Wednesday, April 10th so they may participate in the making of Igneous Peppermint Brittle on Thursday April 11th.
Homeroom:
This week students were given their Silver Dollar City money forms which are due back by Friday, April 19th. Thanks for all your support with this field trip!

Tuesday: We began the class period by going over our sedimentary rock lab that was completed so that everyone understood the purpose and what each piece of the model stood for. We then started 2.3 "Igneous Rocks" pages 48-51 and notes packet page 9 by working either with partners or working solo (student choice). I told students that they would have 15 minutes of tomorrow's class to finish up their notes and vocabulary before we begin an in-depth class discussion on the topic. Please don't forget about the"Edible Lab Permission Slips" from the district office that must be turned in by Wednesday, April 10th so they may participate in the making of Igneous Peppermint Brittle on Thursday April 11th!
Wednesday: We finished our study of 2.3 "Igneous Rocks" and then had a great in-depth Q & A session that allowed the students time to process their reading with their peers. We then briefly discussed the many uses of Igneous rock in ancient times. The quiz over 2.3 "Sedimentary Rocks" and 2.4 "Igneous Rocks" will be held tomorrow before the Igneous Peppermint Brittle lab.
Thursday: We came in and went over any last minute questions that students might have about 2.3 and 2.4 and then completed our Igneous Peppermint Brittle Lab and began working on the lab report. It was definitely a delicious day! We then took our quiz over 2.3 and 2.4. The only thing students have to have for Monday is their Igneous Rock Lab Report (page 10 in their notes packets) completed to their best. Enjoy the three day weekend!
Friday: No school!!
